Cheese recall at Kaufland: customers are threatened with the following symptoms – do not eat Gorgonzola

What are the symptoms of listeriosis? “In immunocompetent people, infection rarely occurs and even less often an illness, which often progresses only as a mild and unusual febrile reaction,” explains the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).

After eating contaminated food, however, even healthy people can experience “severe, febrile, self-limiting (recovers without treatment, d. the editor) stop gastroenteritis”, he continues. Gastrointestinal gastroenteritis is known as the gastrointestinal flu. Typical symptoms include diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting.

Cheese recall at Kaufland: Gorgonzola poses a particular risk to debilitated customers

However, consumption of rebound cheese could be significantly more dangerous for immunocompromised clients, first-time patients, the elderly, or newborns. According to the RKI, they are at risk of overt listeriosis. “It presents with flu-like symptoms such as fever, muscle aches and, in some cases, vomiting and diarrhea.”

Sepsis (blood poisoning), purulent meningitis (inflammation of the meninges) and, in isolated cases, encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) may also occur, which may be accompanied by various neurological deficits and disturbances of consciousness. “In principle, during the evolution of listeriosis, any organ can be damaged and several localized and purulent infections (…) can occur”, reports the RKI.

The “K-Favorites Gorgonzola” recalled by Kaufland should therefore not be eaten under any circumstances. Customers can return the cheese to Kaufland and receive a refund of the purchase price.
